Ski Season is Starting!

I am happy to say that the ski season in which some Hiland Hall students ski and snowboard at Bromley Mountain is starting! Tomorrow is the first Sunday, and Tuesday lessons will begin after vacation. I hope everyone has a great time skiing and snowboarding this year. Let’s hope the conditions are good!

Holiday Break

Hope everyone enjoys their holiday break! Have a great holiday season, everyone.

Cookies

This year Middle School is going on our yearly class trip this spring, so we are fundraising a lot. Now, we are selling cookies for the holidays. We are making oatmeal raisin cookies, shortbread, peppermint cookies, and of course chocolate chip cookies.

Caterpillars!!!

I have been participating in Monarchs in Space, a program where N.A.S.A is sending monarchs into space to be raised on the space station. We are part of the control group on earth. We applied and were sent a kit of caterpillars to raise. We had six originaly, one was canibalised another died but the remaining four are sitll going. Three caterpillars have crysalised one hasn’t. I’ll report when they hatch.

The volcano project

This week my friend Carter and I finished our volcano project. The volcano we studied was Mauna Loa. At the end of the project we made a model out of paper mache the model was really big. On Tuseday we painted our model of Mauna Loa then put a little flour on the top so it looked like snow.

New Project

This week we started a new project about world religions. We started it yesterday, but Ethan would not let us use the internet. So we had to use old fashioned things called “books”. I’m studying Judaism.

The volcano projects are done

For the past 3 weeks we have been studying different volcanoes. We have finished the volcano projects and everyone’s volcanoes are great. Rowie and I did Mt. St. Helen and we did a model of before and after shot of the volcano.

Middle School Trip

For this years Middle School trip, we have decided to camp on the coast of Maine. The trip will also include a day trip to Boston. To make this trip possible we will be fundraising for the rest of the year. Currently we are planing a cookie fundraiser for the holidays. We are also considering babysitting at school for one day over the holidays.

Thanksgiving follow up

null

Dear Hiland Hall community and friends, thank you all so much for attending our Thanksgiving feast. This years was not as successful in terms of our student population because four middle schoolers and many north and south groupers were out from different sicknesses some including variations of the H1N1 virus. This spring we are going to have a senior graduation lunch to honor the seniors and their last year. Two of the seniors, me being one of them, could not make it to their last Thanksgiving dinner and it was always an important celebration at HHS. So in the spring we will have a luncheon.

New Religion study

Just yesterday, Middle School started new studies of religion. Each person chose their own religion, but not a religion that they practice. The chosen religions varied from Christianity to Mi’kmaq. We hope to have each obtained seven paragraphs of information about the religion before winter break.
